I don't have enough faction points with wife to risk approaching regarding this issue, think she's still attack on sight regarding games :)

Was lucky enough with WAR, don't think it'll stretch to another game... though I'd love to play it on PC at stupidly high res...

I also heard great things but I haven't bought it yet. I will probably pick it up after the holidays. All my money right now is going to Birthday and Christmas gifts.

I picked it up yesterday and played a little bit last night, but only through the character creation process (which I haven't seen done that way before and thought it was pretty cool). The wife works tonight so I hope to play some more after the WoW seesion with my bro.

So, I beat the game. My thoughts on it are that it's the best game I've played in the last 3 years. Beating out Mass Effect with it's awesome falloutness. Mass Effect had a better main story but I believe that Fallout 3 has a game play that I like more. Free roaming wasteland, do what ever the fuck you want type of game play.

There's tons of side quests, probably 10x more content combined than the main quest itself. So I reloaded it prior to beating the game and went on to continue to explore the wasteland.

Anyone else finish it? Tell me you're thoughts!

I started with a combat-based guy (all small/big/energy guns spec) and powered through the main questline in a couple of days. It was fun! Second time through I created a char based on sneak/speech/smgun skills and find myself liking it better than the other spec. I'm having a great time doing all the side quests with this new char.

Although, I have to admit that it is missing something the last two fallouts had... though i'm not sure exactly what it is. Maybe just the flavor of a true turn-based RPG? Fallout 3's V.A.T.S. is nice, and the camera angles associated with it during combat is really fun, but it isn't really turn based.

Wife went to Korea for her dads birthday = my chance to buy Fallout 3 lol :)

Anyways, playing it through slow on the 1st go, have a unarmed/sneak/lockpick build that I'm enjoying quite allot (can use any gun I want anyways outside of V.A.T.S). My sneak attack mob explosions are pretty funny.

I made a mistake in the creation and lower levels which is hurting me now. Wish I'd put more points into Int and taken the book and skill point perks early on. Kinda annoying when the level is too low on some of my secondary skills.

Things I don't like...
- No real V.A.T.S for unarmed/melee... why the fuck did they remove this????
- No real relationship building in the game so far. So far all I've done is sleep with a couple of prostitutes... and by sleeping I mean I slept next to them... hahaha. Where's the getting the hicks/mafia bosses daughter pregnant etc...
- Dogmeat is still as stupid as ever and no quick command to call him off. Oh look, he just ran into a room full of Enclave troopers while I'm sneaking around outside, brilliant. Ended up just parking him in a town somewhere.

Though Fallout 3 is pretty good, I think both Fallout 1 & 2 are far better games. They just seemed to have dumbed too much down.

Already mentioned the lack of melee combat functionality, and the lack of meaningful NPC interaction (which funnily enough reduces character development).

Problem is other things are also dumbed down. Even though I'm melee oriented, I've noticed the lack of ammo selection (used to have to pick between JHP, FMJ and AP rounds).

The dark humour that made the other games funny is also very sparse. Still same pretty funny moments, but nothing like the shotgun wedding etc... from the originals.

The game is also extremely easy. Playing on hard and I'm not sure if its simply due to the build (sneak/melee ninja) I am but I kill everything extremely easily with very little risk. Shattering a deathclaw (2 punches while in V.A.T.S) from sneak gets tiring pretty quickly. Maybe I'd enjoy it more being a non-sneak based ranged build. Not sure.

I'm still enjoying the game, and I do think its a pretty good game, but if it didn't have Fallout in the title I'd probably be a little kinder. Thing is I only just finished re-playing the original two a couple of months ago and even with the dated graphics they're actually more fun to play than this game.

Not sure how much I've got to go yet (I don't want to look at any spoiler sites) but I don't think it'll be too much further. Already geared to the wazoo now.

Ya know, with these games, (Especially when they go from Turn Based to ... not,) I try to forget that there was an Original, I always come off enjoying it more that way.

I really like Fallout 3, Like Cracks, I'd like to replay the original - I still remember the opening scene (just watched it again on youTube. ) very memorable. And I miss the turn based nature too... I liked time to plot strategy heh. but, taken as a completely separate game, 3 rules.

welp, I'm out.

I was looking for a game a couple of weeks ago and finally decided to try this one out. Personally I think you have to of played the previous games to appreciate this one. I never played any of the fallouts, and I have to say I thought this game sucked major ass. The combat felt like Zork with cool graphics. Kill troll was cool in the 80's, not so cool now.

I am sure it was because I approached it with a FPS type mentallity, which this game is not. I played for a couple of hours, and I won't be playing this again.

Oh ya, totally wrong genre heh, Fallout started out as a Turn Based RPG - it's root's are RPG and it's definitely an RPG. If I had bought it as an FPS I'd have hated it, that's not at all what Fallout was designed for.

as an RPG however, it's an awesome game. I got hours and hours of fun out of it. as for having to play the first games... I'd only say that perhaps had you played them you'd have known better the Genre you were getting into... but I think that Fallout 3 definitely stands on it's own... as a matter of fact, since it's not turn based - and is so different than the others, I'd almost recommend NOT playing through the first two if you hadn't already.

The expansions were great too.

Sorry you misunderstood about it being a first person shooter, heh.

now, Borderlands is more like an FPS, but I'm not liking it pretty much because I keep wanting it to be more 'Fallout 3' ish, and it's aiming to be more of a First Person Shooter.

you might likeBorderlands better Lys, lots of my friends certainly do.

g'luck!

zWolf -out.
